HeartWorm Test (HWT)
The Annual HeartWorm Test is a SNAP Blood Test. It tests for the microfilaria stage of the lifecycle. The heartworm is transmitted by the mosquito. Everytime your dog or cat is bitten they are potentially exposed to the heartworm larva. The Heart Worm prevention kills the microfilaria stage, not the adults. By testing and treating for this early stage of the Heartworm life cycle your veterinarian can prevent adults from colonizing the heart. Heartworm prevention is started as a puppy and continued throughout the life of your pet. |
